Toshiba Unveils Dual-Touchscreen Tablet PC

Toshiba today announced the Libretto W100, a dual-screen tablet PC the company calls a next-gen ultra mobile concept PC. The limited edition tablet, which Toshiba is releasing to honor the 25th anniversary of their laptop business, will feature a full version of Windows 7 and dual 7-inch multi-touch displays, each with a 1024x600 resolution.

Toshiba Libretto Tablet PC

The Libretto will be powered by a 1.2GHz Intel Pentium U5400 processor with 2GB of DDR3 memory and a 62GB SSD. For connectivity, it will sport 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth 2.1. The Libretto W100 will measure 7.95 x 4.84 x 1.2 inches when closed and weigh 1.8 pounds.

The Libretto W100 will have six virtual keyboard alignments along with a virtual touchpad. Toshiba claims the keyboards will each feature haptic technology for sensory feedback. It will also come preloaded with Toshiba apps to aid navigation.

For ports, the Libretto will feature a MicroSD card slot and USB 2.0 port. It will also have a 1 megapixel HD webcam, 8-cell battery and a built-in 3D accelerometer for both landscape and portrait modes. The Libretto clamshell will have a brushed metal finish.

The name Libretto may take some notebook fans back to the mid-90s when Toshiba released a line of ultra-portable subnotebooks under that moniker.

There is no word yet on pricing, though Toshiba claims the tablet PC will be available by the end of the summer.
