Steve Jobs: Apple not Making 7-inch iPad

Elaborating on the decision to stick with the larger screen size (the current iPad screen measures 9.7-inches diagonally), Jobs also added, "We are not not making a seven-inch tablet because we don't want to hit a lower price point. We just believe it's too small to hit the user experience people want."

Jobs: 7-inch Displays "Useless"

He stated, "It (seven-inch screen) is useless unless you include sandpaper so users can sand their fingers down to a quarter of their size."

Finally, after listing off the limits of seven-inch screens and the fact that even Google representatives claimed the current version of Android (2.2, Froyo) is not fit for tablets, he added, "The current crop of seven-inch tablets are DOA -- dead on arrival."

The comments should put to rest the persistent seven-inch iPad rumors emerging from manufactures in China, rumors that may have been fueled by competing products opting for the seven-inch screen, including the Samsung Galaxy Tab and the recently-announced BlackBerry PlayBook.

Millions of iPads Sold

According to Apple, the company shipped "4.19 million iPads during the quarter." During the Q3 earnings call, in the first full quarter in which the iPad was available, that number stood at just over 3 million.

Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer also stressed iPad usage in the enterprise, claiming about 66% of Fortune 100 businesses are incorporating the iPad. High schools and grammar schools are also adopting the iPad and incorporating it into education.

Overall, Apple recorded revenue of $20.34 billion and a net profit of $44.31 billion.
