Apple iPad Coming to Verizon

The Apple iPad is coming to Verizon, according to remarks made by Verizon CFO Francis Shammo. The tablet will join the iPhone 4 on the CDMA network.

Details on pricing and a release date have yet to be revealed, but Bloomberg is reporting that a version of the Apple iPad will soon be available that can connect to Verizon’s wireless network.

As of the announcement date, the 3G Apple iPad is exclusive to the AT&T network. However, the Wi-Fi Apple iPad is available in Verizon stores, bundled with a Verizon Mi-Fi mobile hotspot. The Verizon iPad bundle costs $130 more than the Wi-Fi iPad available from AT&T and in other retail outlets.

It’s doubtful the Verizon iPad will be a 4G device as the recently-announced Verizon iPhone is limited to Verizon’s 3G network. Verizon announced a 4G Samsung Galaxy Tab, a seven-inch Android tablet and chief iPad rival device, at CES 2011.

Rumors and speculation suggests Apple may announce the next-generation Apple iPad in the coming weeks. The Apple iPad was originally announced close to one year ago, on January 27, 2010.
