ASUS Launching Eee Pad Slider Soon

ASUS has announced via its Facebook page that fans of the Eee Pad Slider need not despair. Despite the fact that news of the convertible has been nearly nonexistent for close to five months, apparently it has been waiting in the wings and is currently on the cusp of release.

The official word from ASUS: “For those of you waiting for the Eee Pad Slider, we've got some good news for you: it's [sic] launch is due soon!” Commenters on the Facebook post were unable to wrench an official date or price details out of ASUS’ PR, but such information should be revealed shortly, as ASUS has a press conference scheduled for Monday, May 30.

The Eee Pad Slider will be following on the heels of the generally well-received ASUS Eee Pad Transformer. Like the Transformer, the Slider was one of several tablets ASUS unveiled earlier this year at CES, each of which featured some sort of differentiating factor from the rest of the Android crowd.

The as of yet unreleased MeMO is going to feature pen support, the Transformer is compatible with a snap on keyboard that turns the tablet into essentially a touchscreen netbook, and the Slider’s claim to fame is its built-in slide-out keyboard.

Past the keyboard the Slider is a relatively average Android tablet, featuring a 10.1-inch 1280 x 800 display, a 1 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, and Honeycomb. We should have more information (like price and a set release date) after ASUS’ news conference, and any remaining details will likely come out during this year’s Computex.
