ViewSonic, Gigabyte Announce Tablets at Computex

We knew there would be dozens of tablets at Computex this year, and Gigabyte and ViewSonic have just added three more.

Just as we thought, ViewSonic announced a seven-inch Honeycomb tablet, the ViewPad 7X. Also, the specs we reported were spot on. The ViewPad 7X will sport seven in LED display (1,024 x 600) with 10-point multitouch. It will also have a NVIDIA processor, Wi-Fi, HSPA+ data, HDMI port, DNLA support, and rear- and front-facing cameras. This seven-inch Android tablet is expected to weigh a scant .84 pounds.

ViewSonic also took the wraps off the new and improved ViewPad 10Pro, the successor to the ViewPad 10 that was first announced at Mobile World Congress in February. ViewSonic claims the ViewPad 10Pro is “the world's first dual-OS tablet that uses Windows 7 Professional and Android, and the first to use the latest Intel Oak Trail processor.”

The ViewPad 10Pro is not a true dual-boot device. As Endgadget points out, it will virtualize Android through Windows, which enables instant switching between the operating systems. It will be however, one of the first tablets on the market with the Intel Oak Trail Z670 chip (1.5GHz), and no doubt, is one of the ten plus tablets Intel promised for Computex.

The ViewPad 10Pro will also run Windows 7 professional, feature Android 2.2 and a 10.1-inch LED multitouch display (1024 x 600). Other specs include 32GB capacity, Micro SD up to 32GB, USB 2.0 port, DC-in, HDMI, 3.5mm audio jack, g-sensor, light sensor, front- and rear-facing camera, and a lithium polymer battery good for up to 4.5 hours of juice. The ViewPad 10 Pro is expected to weigh 1.8 pounds at launch.

ViewSonic did not say when these devices will ship to the US or at what price. However, the company did claim the ViewPad 10Pro will cost between $700 and $800 dollars and be available in Taiwan this June, and the ViewPad 7X will be available in Taiwan this July.

Gigabyte also displayed its latest tablet, the S1080, a 10.1-inch Windows 7 tablet. The big highlight is that the S1080 will have a USB 3.0 port, which is extremely rare on tablets. In fact, I can’t think of a single tablet with a USB 3.0 port. Other goodies include an Intel Atom N570 processor, 2GB DDR3 RAM, 320GB harddrive, USB 2.0, SD card reader, b/g/n Wi-Fi, 3.5G, and Bluetooth 3.0.

Gigabyte is also offering an option docking station with a front-loading optical drive, additional battery, VGA port, stereo speakers, and additional USB 2.0 ports.

The Gigabyte S1080 will be .6-inches thick and weigh close to two pounds. It is expected to hit the US in June and cost $700. There is no word on the dock pricing or availability.
