Barnes & Noble will be launching a new, more expensive tablet under the Nook name, according to a rumored report.
The rumored tablet, currently dubbed the Acclaim, will launch at $349 and is said to debut sometime in October. The report did not mention any specs or other information. The tipster also claimed to see a slide from a Barnes & Noble presentation containing a tablet codenamed "Encore", which is speculated to be an updated version of the current 7-inch Nook Color.
An addition to the Nook lineup seems sensible, as the device was first released nearly a year ago. The book retailer will continue to offer the Nook Smart Touch eReader for $139 and the Nook color at $249.
Barnes & Noble could be updating its Nook collection in an effort to compete with Amazon’s upcoming tablet. While Amazon has yet to officially confirm the widely rumored tablet, the online retailer is having a press conference in New York City on Wednesday, September 28, where it could unveil this highly buzzed about device.
