While Lenovo has yet to announce a quad-core tablet, the device has just been tested using GL Benchmarks and the results are in.
The 10.1-inch tablet was tested running Android 3.2 Honeycomb, though sadly not Ice Cream Sandwich as originally expected. Though the Tegra 3 processor from NVIDIA offers an improved performance over the Tegra 2 chipset, it appears the Tegra 3’s 12-core GeForce GPU does not beat Apple’s A5 processor, which appears in the current iPad 2, in terms of graphics performance.
Joining the ranks of the recently leaked Acer Iconia Tab A700, Lenovo’s rumored tablet will also boast one of the highest resolution displays yet, offering an effective resolution of 1920 x 1152. While these results reveal that more optimizations may be necessary to reach competitive graphics performance, there is little to compare these findings with until Samsung, Qulacomm or Texas Instruments release a quad-core ARM-powered CPU of their own.
As for Lenovo’s mystery slate, it is said to feature 2GB 1,600 Mhz DDR3 RAM, a standard USB input and a rear-facing camera. The 1.6GHz tablet is also rumored to include a “Special Fusion-Skin Body” as well as a fingerprint scanner that apparently doubles as an optical joystick. The device is expected to launch at the end of this year.
