A report is floating around saying that Amazon has placed an order with E Ink Holdings for a color eInk displays.
DigiTimes, citing the Chinese Economic Daily News, reports that shipments of these eBooks to Amazon will begin in March, and could top 3 million display units per month. The DigiTimes is a notorious rumormonger, and often wrong, but if it is right, the move suggest that Amazon will soon release a color eInk-based eReader.
E Ink Holdings, which makes the black and white eInk displays featured on all Kindle eReaders, has a color eInk product in Triton that it first announced in 2010. However, it has not been widely adopted, as Amazon and others have instead released tablet-like devices with LCD screens. Qualcomm also offers a similar product as Triton with its Mirasol display.
