According to insiders, Nokia is looking to take a stab at the Microsoft Windows 8 tablet market by releasing their own later on this year.
Sources from DigiTimes have reported that Nokia will launch a Windows 8-on-ARM device using a dual-core Qualcomm chipset in Q4 of 2012. Nothing has been made official, but the slate is expected to be powered by a Snapdragon S4 “Krait” chipset.
Nokia previously stated that they will not produce a tablet until it can differentiate its product from the market since Windows 7 and Android devices have had trouble competing with the Apple iPad. However Nokia may feel that the more finger-friendly Windows 8 is what it needs to be a player in the growing world of tablets.
Update: Here is the official word from Nokia regarding the rumor: "We continue to eye the tablet space with interest, but we have not announced any specific plans."
