Yesterday we reported that Apple CEO Tim Cook was "thrilled" with the sales of the new iPad. Today, we know why he's thrilled: Apple has sold over 3 million new iPads worldwide.
"The new iPad is a blockbuster with three million sold -- the strongest iPad launch yet," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.
Since March 16, the release of the third generation iPad, Apple has sold over 3 million new iPads across the globe. To put this number into perspective, it took Apple 80 days to sell 3 million first gen-iPads. The iPad 2 sold about a million copies in its first three days out in the market.
What's more impressive is that Apple is steamrolling its competitors with its iPad sales. Apple has sold the same number of new iPads in four days as RIM has sold BlackBerry PlayBooks and Motorola has sold XOOMs in a year -- combined.
