Top Tablets for Moms, Dads, and Grads

There are Apple tablets, Android tablets, business tablets, budget tablets, and media tablets, just to name a few. That means there is a tablet perfect for Moms, Dads, and all grads. Different users have different needs, and different tablets have different features. For example, the Amazon Kindle Fire is great for watching movies and reading eBooks, but doesn’t have a camera for video chat. Users can do all that with the ASUS Transformer Prime, but if high-end performance is not a concern, why pay top dollar when a brand name budget tablet will do?
TabletPCReview helps you cut through the marketing clutter to help you choose the right device for your needs, through tablet reviews, market analysis, and our active and informative forums. For Moms, Dads, and Grads tablet buying advice, look no further.

Apple iPad (3rd Generation)

Apple iPad (3rd Generation)
$499 (16GB, Wi-Fi)

The new Apple iPad has it all. For moms and dads, it’s easy to use, and for college-bound grads it offers access to inexpensive eTextbooks as well as references, notes, and study planner apps. For both, the new iPad has multiple options for video chat and the absolute best display in the market currently.

ASUS Transformer Prime

ASUS Transformer Prime
$499.99 (32GB)

With a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 chipset, the ASUS Transformer Prime has a more powerful CPU than any other mobile tablet on the market. Include the optional keyboard case with its excellent QWERTY, full-sized ports, and extended battery life, along with a handful of productivty apps, and the grad has a powerful, portable Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 tablet and netbook.

Apple iPad 2

The Apple iPad 2 is basically the same tablet as the new iPad, and it’s $100 cheaper. While it doesn’t have a Retina Display or quad-core GPU, the iPad 2 is still near the head of the pack in terms of screen quality and overall performance.

Lenovo IdeaPad A1Lenovo IdeaPad A1
$199.99 (16GB)

The Lenovo IdeaPad A1 costs the same as a Kindle Fire and 8GB NOOK Tablet, is approximately the same size, but is much more feature rich. Yes, it only has a single-core processor, but it compared favorably against the dual-core Kindle Fire in our comparison tests. Plus, it has a front-facing camera for video chat.

Amazon Kindle Fire

Amazon Kindle Fire, Barnes & Noble NOOK Tablet
$199 (Kindle Fire and NOOK Tablet, 8GB), $250 (NOOK Tablet, 16GB)

There is a reason these two tablets have sold so well. They may have basic specs, but they both offer a great experience for those looking to watch Netflix, read eBooks, and browse the web – all at an excellent price.

Barnes & Noble NOOK TabletThe Kindle Fire has a slight edge over the NOOK Tablet in regards to entertainment and content, but the NOOK hardware is superior. Be warned however, rumors suggest the Amazon Kindle Fire is due for a refresh in mid-2012, so Mom and Dad may be sporting last year’s tech by the end of summer.
