Today, AT&T along with Samsung announced that the carrier will begin offering both the Samsung ATIV Smart PC and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 starting Nov. 9. This will give shoppers a choice of either a Windows 8 tablet or one running Android with 4G connectivity.
Both tablets will be offered nationwide this holiday season and will be available at AT&T retailers.
Samsung ATIV smart PC
The Samsung ATIV smart PC will look to combine the functionality of PC with the slim form factor of a tablet. The convertible tablet is going to offer an 11.6-inch display with a 1366 x 768 resolution, with 64GB of internal memory, plus microSD compatibility supporting up to 32GB.
The tablet will house an Intel Atom 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 2GB of RAM, and will run the Windows 8 operating system (with the option to upgrade to Windows 8 Professional OS).
The Samsung ATIV smart PC will support all existing software and applications that run on older Microsoft operating systems, including Windows 7, Vista, and XP.
The new tablet will offer an optional stand dock, which will include both a USB and Ethernet port, and serve as a charger for the device. Another option will be a VGA adapter, allowing users to connect the tablet to an external display. Both the stand dock and VGA adapter will be available in late November for $49 and $40 respectively.
Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 will offer a 10.1-inch display with a 1280 x 800 resolution. The tablet will also have a 1GHz dual-core processor, with 1GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage, with microSD compatibility offering up to 32GB more. The tablet will run on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich).
However, the big news for AT&T consumers will be the ability to connect the tablet to AT&T's 4G wireless network. The combination of the 7,000 mAh battery and the new wireless connectivity will allow users to stay connected and active all day long.
Pricing and Availability
Both devices are going to be available starting Nov. 9 online at wireless.att.com and in AT&T retailers. The Samsung ATIV smart PC will be offered at $800, while the Samsung Galaxy 2 10.1 will be offered at $500, with data plans starting at $10 per month.
Besides offering both of these new tablets for the holiday season, AT&T is looking to further incentivize consumers. As part of a limited offer, AT&T will be providing consumers with up to $100 off the purchase of any connected Samsung device of equal or lesser value (including both new tablets), when they purchase any Samsung Galaxy smartphone with a two-year agreement.
