NVIDIA Tegra 4 Details Leak Out

Information on NVIDIA's Tegra 4 chip, aka Wayne, has leaked onto the internet via a series of slides, confirming many of the previous rumors about the next-gen chip.

The system on a chip, like its predecessor, will have a quad-core CPU (with the same fifth "battery saver" core for low-level tasks) and will be capable of running full 1440p, VP8 accelerated video. According to the slides, the Tegra 4 will have six times as many cores on the GPU side than the Tegra 3 and 20 times the number of cores found in the Tegra 2 chip.

Another slide has a performance scale intended to indicate the chips' level of performance in relation to each other. "Wayne," according to this slide, will offer 10 times the performance of the Tegra 2 (while also mentioning to existence of future chipsets codenamed "Logan" and "Stark," slated for 2013 and 2014, respectively).

It appears that "Wayne" is slated to appear heavily in more convertibles, laptops, and tablets, according to the roadmap, which also indicates that the Tegra 4 will not be the merger of the Tegra platform with the Icera LTE module. We will likely hear more about "Wayne" come CES in January, so stay tuned.
