After being delayed twice, the Windows 8-based ThinkPad 2 from Lenovo will officially be released on January 8 and is now available for preorder. Initially slated to be released alongside Microsoft's Surface RT back on October 26, the ThinkPad 2 didn't make it out of the gate and its release was pushed to November 16. Needless to say, it missed that deadline as well, so it appears that Lenovo has now landed on this early January release as the ThinkPad 2's (hopefully final) revised launch date.
Though the tablet passed through the FCC recently, there have been very recent rumblings that Window 8 tablet vendors are having issues with Intel's Clover Trail chips, perhaps offering a reason for the multiple delays of the ThinkPad 2.
Regardless, the tablet is available for preorder on Lenovo's website in a variety of flavors, with prices starting at $649 for the 64 GB Wi-Fi model. Some of the 10.1-inch tablet's specs include the aforementioned dual-core, 1.8 GHz Intel Clover Trail Z2760 processor, USB 2.0 and HDMI ports, and compatibility with existing Office applications. Available peripherals include a stylus, a digitizer screen, and a keyboard stand.
