Even though the iPad Mini debuted almost two months ago, this tablet is still back-ordered on Apple's online store. Anyone buying the Mini on Apple's website is informed that it will ship some time within the next week, so the wait for this product isn't a long one. Still, the full-size iPad 4, which launched at the same time as the smaller model, is listed as "In Stock".
Every version of the tablet is back-ordered, no matter the color or whether it comes with built-in 4G or not. This is happening, even though the holiday shopping season is over.
When the iPad mini was unveiled in the fall, some criticized its $330 price as being too high, especially when compered to rival devices like the Google Nexus 7, which starts at $130 less. It seems Apple buyers don't care.
More About the iPad Mini
While all Apple's previous tablets have had 9.7-inch touchscreens, the mini has a 7.9-inch one. This has a 1024 x 768 resolution, the same as the first and second-generation iPad.
The tablet runs Apple iOS 6 on an Apple A5 processor -- the same processor used in the iPad 2. As it is so similar to the iPad released in 2011, it can run software designed for that older model.
The iPad mini has a 5MP rear-facing camera, and a 1.2MP front camera, too. Apple is promising 10 hours of battery life.
