Google and LG May Be Prepping the Nexus 7.7

Those considering the Google Nexus 7 might want to wait a bit, as rumors of its replacement are starting to circulate.

This device will reportedly have a slightly larger screen: 7.7 inches vs. 7 inches. And this will supposedly have a much higher resolution: 1920 x 1200 pixels, up from 1280 x 800.

The current Nexus tablet is made by Asus. The follow-up supposedly will be manufactured by LG, with heavy input from Google. LG makes the Nexus 4 smartphone as well.

If this report is correct, the Nexus 7.7 will run the next version of the Android OS, code name "Key Lie Pie". The tablet will allegedly be unveiled at the same time this operating system is, in May at the Google I/O conference.

That won't be its only cutting-edge feature, as the next Nexus will allegedly be built around an Nvidia Tegra 4 processor, which was just announced at CES and which Nvidia claims will be the world's fastest.

The mid-size slate will reportedly include 8 GB of internal storage, which is somewhat surprising... and questionable. There was an 8GB version of the Nexus 7 introduced last summer, but this was discontinued in the fall. As the Nexus line does not include expandable storage, 8GB isn't very much.

Other details remain vague. For example, the device will allegedly include front- and rear-facing cameras, but that's all that's known about them..
