Samsung Rolls Out Android 4.1 Update for Galaxy Note 10.1, Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, Galaxy Tab 2 7.0

Samsung has delivered another tasty upgrade to members of the Galaxy family, announcing today that Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) is now available on Wi-Fi versions of the Galaxy Note 10.1, Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 via an over-the-air update.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1With all three tablets currently running Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) with heavy Samsung TouchWiz customizations, the slates will be getting a taste of the sweet life thanks to the upgrade, as users will experience a much smoother interface, as well as a collection of new features. With Project Butter distributing system resources more efficiently to improve general run times, users will also see an enhancement in graphics, as the entire interface runs at 60 frames per second.

Owners of the Galaxy Note 10.1, Tab 2 10.1 and its 7-inch cousin, will also enjoy a range of extras to aid in multi-tasking and productivity, with new features like Samsung's Multi-Window view, which allows users to split their screen and run two apps simultaneously. Users can expect to experience a superior S Pen as well, with new options like Air view, which lets users quickly preview content without having to open it, and Quick Command, which allows people to write command shortcuts to activate applications instantly.

Of course, users will also get the voice assistance of Google Now, Android's answer to Apple's Siri. An extension of the Google Search application, the aide can answer questions and perform requested actions, while learning more about the user's habits to predict what they will want in the future.

The Android 4.1 updates for the Wi-Fi versions of the Note 10.1 and the Tab 2 10.1 and 7.0 have been a long-time coming, with Samsung promising owners of the devices a taste of Jelly Bean for several months now. Unfortunately, those with cellular models will have to wait a bit longer for the upgrade, as wireless carriers tend to test new software extensively before deploying it.
