Sony's next high-end tablet has just stopped being a rumor -- the Xperia Tablet Z is now official.
This upcoming device is going to run Android 4.1 on a Qualcomm 1.5GHz quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM.
It will include a 10.1 inch touchscreen with a 1920 x 1200 pixel resolution. It will be water- and dust-resistent.
Other features will include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, Qualcomm NFC, and an 8.1-megapixel camera.
It is going to weigh in a 1 lbs. and 2.4 ounces. The tablet will be just 0.27 inches (6.9mm) thin, possibly making it the slimmest tablet available.
This slate is going to be able to function in tandem with the Sony Xperia Z smartphone, wirelessly swapping files back-and-forth with NFC.
The Sony Xperia Tablet Z was announced as part of the Japanese wireless carrier NTT Docomo's sprint product line. It's not known when, or if, this model is going to be released by other carriers, or if there will be a WiFi-only version. It's possible information on global availability will be announced at next month's MWC tradeshow in Barcelona.
