Windows 8 is a very powerful operating system, but it's not small. PC and laptops typically have big enough hard drives that this isn't an issue, but the situation is different for the Surface Pro.
Microsoft has warned potential buyers of this device that the version with 128GB of storage capacity will actually have 83GB of storage available to users -- this is because the operating system is going to take up a third of the total.
The situation is apparently going to be even worse for the 64GB version. If Windows 8 Pro takes up 45GB of space, that version is going to be left with just 19GB.
The tablet will offer some other options, like a microSDXC card slot that could be used to add 64GB of capacity or cloud-based storage options.
