Documents.Me App Review: Connecting the Clouds

Overview

The free new iOS app already connects to a wide array of devices and cloud services. Users can access and organize their documents from emails, computers (PC or Mac), and multiple cloud storage services including iCloud, Dropbox, and Google Drive (with SkyDrive, Box, and other services expected to be added in the future).

Navigating the application is a breeze thanks to its tiled pictured layout. For those who don't like the large tile layout, there is also a drop down menu that serves the same function. Locating documents is also quite simple with documents filled into segregated tabs according to respective file type. 

However, the best feature has to be the universal and individual search functions. In my testing, finding specific documents was incredibly quick and easy thanks to the app's search functions, which allow you to search specific services such as Gmail and iCloud, or to conduct a universal search to collectively skim all of the user's material. 

Documents.Me doesn't only allow users to access their information, but to share and allocate it as well. Any document that can be accessed through the application can also be viewed, downloaded, emailed, or sent to different a storage service such as Dropbox or Google Drive. The application also helps users organize their documents, with a project tool that lets you aggregate your documents into organized project folders.

Performance

Documents.Me allows users to quickly sync their accounts and devices with its easy installation. To connect any of the available cloud or email services, you only need to log in to the service through the application. Syncing a computer takes a bit more work, as users will need to download a corresponding application (with companion programs being available for both the PC and Mac) to run on the computer. However, after you set up the program, the device and computer automatically sync, allowing you to easily transfer documents form the computer over to the device. Users can also easily re-establish the connection between the two devices by simply clicking on the PC icon in the application.

After I set up the application, everything worked perfectly. Documents loaded fast and were easy to access regardless of whether I pulled them off a computer or the cloud. Sending documents proved to be just as easy, as a document can be emailed, stored, or downloaded with a simple click of the screen. 

The only serious issue that could potentially bog down the user experience is a slow wireless connection. Users who are attempting to move entire folders may experience some lag due to the file size, but that has nothing to do with the application itself and is just a limitation of wireless connectivity. 

Conclusion

Documents.Me is the perfect document aggregator. It's simple enough that it sets up quickly and is accessible to all users, but it's also detailed enough that organizing and finding files is a breeze. With the exceptional quality offered by this application, it's surprising that Topobile is offering it for free.
