Microsoft Surface With Windows 8 Pro Now Available

Today is the launch of the Surface Pro, Microsoft's first tablet that runs Windows 8 Pro. It's available directly from Microsoft, as well as Best Buy and Staples.

There are two options for shoppers: one with 64GB of storage selling for $900, while a version with 128GB of storage is $1000 (Note; actual storage available to users is considerably less). Aside from the different amounts of storage, they are otherwise identical.

The Surface Pro has a 10.6-inch screen, with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. It includes a full-size USB 3.0 port, plus a Mini DisplayPort that can drive an external display up to 2560 x 1440 pixels.

This tablet is built around an Intel Core i5 processor with 4GB of RAM. Because it runs Windows 8 Pro, it is able to run software written for Windows 7 and earlier, in addition to apps written specifically for this new Microsoft operating system.

The device come with a stylus dubbed "the Surface pen", which has Palm Block technology. It is not, however, bundled with a Touch Cover or Type Cover. These will be sold separately, at $120 and $130, respectively. Additional accessories for this tablet are in development.
