BlueStacks Apps Player Comes to Surface Pro

Over 750,000 Android apps can now be used on the Surface Pro thanks to the release of the BlueStacks App Player on the platform.

This marks the first time that BlueStacks Android emulator has been made available on the Windows 8 OS and will give users a way run their Android apps in a full screen environment. Giving users a way to experience the Android library of apps on their Surface Pro adds to the comparatively paltry offering of roughly 35,000 apps that are currently available in the Windows 8 app store.

BlueStacks can be pinned as a tile on the Windows 8 Start screen and launched directly from there. In addition to the new full-screen mode -- it was not available in the previous Windows 7 and Mac releases of the software -- there is also a new "Charms" menu on the right side. The Android navigation buttons (back, menu, settings, home) are available on the bar. Meanwhile, if it?s a feature of the software, the app can be reoriented in portrait or landscape mode using the Surface Pro?s motion sensor.

Downloads of the BlueStacks software, which is still available for Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, and Mac desktops, have now eclipsed 5 million, according to the BlueStacks website.
