Evernote for iOS Receives Slew of Useful Updates

Evernote for iOS, an app that allows users to save their notes, images, clips and documents in one place and then sync and access them across all of their devices, got an update today. The changes include a new note view called Snippets, a renovation to the PDF experience, additional formatting options, Evernote Business improvements and access to "the Evernote Trunk."

Snippets -- A New Way to View

A new enhancement to the iPad version of Evernote, Snippets allows users to view their notes in list format so it's easier to glance at all of the notes at once. The snippets can be recorded by month, allowing for users to jump to any of them with the "date scrubber." To switch to the view, drag and pull from the top of the note list and tap the view icon.

Evernote on iPadThe design view, once activated by tapping, lets users view and edit notes, as well as scroll through the list. Snippets also include the notes' title and date, and you can set tags, images and a preview of text from the note. Users can choose to display any amount of text in them.

Enhanced PDF

A new and improved PDF viewer now allows for multi-page views and navigation, PDF search, landscape view, and a feature that users can activate to lock the rotation in portrait or landscape.

  • Multi-page: Tap the page image or grid icon in the top-left to automatically jump to any given page
  • Search: Pertains to the whole PDF; tap the magnifying glass to use this feature
  • Landscape: Two-page (side by side) view; simply rotate your device
  • Rotation lock: Locks landscape or portrait mode in place; tap the rotate icon in the top-right corner

More Formatting Options

Two changes were made in the formatting department: to simplify all formatting and to use plain text. If you run across errors or issues in formatting, enabling the simplify formatting option cleans up the text automatically; while enabling plain text removes all "rich text," existing formatting, and images.

To access the formatting options menu, tap the "A" above the keyboard (iPhone) or the icon for no formatting above the keyboard (iPad) when in note edit view.

Evernote Business Update

Two new features were added for Evernote Business as well?Offline Notebook Support and the Business Library for iPad. No Internet connection required--Evernote Business users now have the ability to download any of their notes onto their notebook PCs while offline. To do so, select the Business Premium view, tap the notebooks you want to enable with this feature, and then tap the offline notebooks option. The other new feature allows for iPad users to sync notes with their colleagues to share information.

Evernote Trunk

This feature is essentially a sharing database of any variation developers have made of Evernote?think of it like video game mods, but for an app.
