Smaller versions of the Microsoft Surface Windows tablets are going to be unveiled in late June, according to an unconfirmed report.
Rather than being replacements for the first-gen Surface models, as considerable evidence has come to light in recent weeks that Microsoft is going to offer customers smaller options, the company is reacting to market demand; tablets in the 7- to 9-inch range are the top sellers these days.
There will reportedly be both Windows RT and Windows 8 options in the second generation Surface line, with these running on Nvidia and Intel chips, respectively.
The 7 to 9-inch versions of the Microsoft Surface are allegedly going to be unveiled at the Build Developer Conference, scheduled for June 26-28. It's not known when they will be released -- the first-gen models were announced June of last year but the first of these wasn't on store shelves until the fall.
