The keynote address of Google's developer conference covered quite a bit of ground, but a rumored update to the Nexus 7 tablet wasn't included, and neither was a new version of the Android OS.
[click to view image]The company announced a new service called Google Play Music All Access, and described an improved version Google+, as well as enhancements for its Chrome web browser.
However, the two big items many had been expecting were not on the docket -- with the 3-hour keynote over, Android 4.3 and a new version of the Nexus 7 remain only the subject of rumors.
Getting Their Own Event?
While the original Google Nexus 7 and Android 4.1 were announced at Google I/O 2012, other new models from the company have been announced at smaller events. For example, wraps came off the Nexus 10 and Android 4.2 last fall at an event held for just that purpose.
So it's quite possible that Google's next tablet and mobile operating system update are still on the way, just not as soon as had been thought.
Timing is anyone's guess, but Google I/O 2012 was held last June. The unveiling of the new versions might come in the same month of this year.
