Mobile file sharing company Accellion has announced new Office and cloud-storage software aimed at enterprise users, Accellion Mobile Productivity Suite.
Available in March, it will be integrated into Accellion’s existing mobile app. It is going to let users create, edit and share Microsoft Office documents on their mobile devices, and have them synced to the company’s current, “enterprise-class” mobile file hosting service. Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents are said to be compatible with the updated app, although certain aspects of Office’s functionality will not be available.
Think of Accellion’s existing service as a sort of Dropbox for businesses, since it gives users a more secure location to stash their files than the consumer-focused Dropbox, Box or what have you. It also features a few added bonuses like integration with Microsoft SharePoint and special plug-ins for Outlook.
With the Mobile Productivity Suite, though, enterprise users will be able to access and, most importantly, edit their business’s documents while still keeping them within one secure file location. It will let users share and upload their mobile devices’ photos to the service as well. And since the suite is built for tablets, it enables all of this while on the go.
The company says that the suite will only be on iPhone and iPad to start, but will come to Android and BlackBerry devices at a later date.
