One of the biggest drawbacks of the Apple iPad is its lack of a memory card slot or a USB slot. The Kingston MobileLife Wireless is a new accessory that lets these tablets access the contents of a range of removable memory types.
It is a reader for USB Flash drives, microSD cards, and full-size SD/SDHC/SDXC cards. Thanks to an iOS app running on the tablet, the user can wireless access the files it reads, whether they be images or documents. It can even stream movies and music to up to three users at the same time.
The accessory connects to the iPad over Wi-Fi for speedy transfer of large files.
The MobileLife Wireless’ battery is good for up to five hours of continuous use as a wireless reader. It can also be used as an emergency mobile charger when the user’s tablet battery gets low.
The app is available now for the Apple iPad and iPhone, and a version for Android and Kindle Fire will be released soon. Support for Windows Phone, Windows, and Mac is in development.
The Kingston MobileLite Wireless sells for $70. It will soon be available in the United States from Amazon.com, and will be carried in the coming weeks at Staples retail locations.
