Amazon will soon launch Kindle Singles for its Kindle eReaders, which is content approximately 30 to 90 pages long that slots somewhere between magazine articles and full books in terms of length.
Ultimately, the content comes out to 10,000 to 50,000 words, a sort of publishing dead zone writers avoided in making their works either short enough for a magazine or long enough for a book. However, according to Amazon, that length “might be the perfect, natural length to lay out a single killer idea, well researched, well argued, and well illustrated.”
According to Amazon, Kindle Singles content could include business lessons, political op-eds, scientific arguments, or a “beautifully crafted essay on a current event.”
This new feature will be available in its own section in the Kindle store and will cost “much less” than a regular book. Buyers will be able to read the content on Kindle, Kindle 3G, Kindle DX, iPad, iPod touch, iPhone, Mac, PC, BlackBerry, and Android-based devices.
