Where have we heard this before? Apple is reportedly gearing up to launch a 7-inch version of the iPad in October 2012.
The rumor that never dies, Apple is targeting the fall month to release the so-called “iPad Mini” with a rumored price range of $200 to $250. The reports this time are saying that the smaller iPad will be a scaled down version of the third-generation iPad, with otherwise identical specs. What that means is that the 7-inch iPad may sport a screen with 2048 x 1536 resolution with a pixel density of a 326 ppi, giving it a Retina Display. To reduce costs, the iPad Mini could have only 8GB of on-board storage.
That being said, it’s hard to believe which rumor or report is right. We just reported two days ago that sources in Taiwan said that the iPad Mini would launch in August and will sport a 7.85-inch screen with 1024 x 768 resolution. Last month, we reported that the smaller iPad will be priced between $249 and $299.
We’ll just have to wait and deal with a few more months of this madness, so until then, soak in all of the information until more official sources can confirm any of these reports.
