A new report pegs the rumored 8.9-inch Kindle Fire follow-up with Q2 2012 launch date.

Amazon Kindle FireWhile rumors of a second Kindle Fire tablet have been buzzing since Amazon first announced the 7-inch device, most details remained ambiguous. Originally, reports suggested the follow-up to Amazon’s first tablet would sport a 10-inch display with more impressive specs, though a report then surfaced earlier this month claiming the device would actually feature an 8.9-inch screen

According to the report from DigiTimes, Amazon will be taking a cue from Samsung and LG and will offer an 8.9-inch device, while trying to differentiate from the current crop of 9.7- and 10.1-inch tablets already available. In addition, we should expect the tablet at the end of the second quarter of 2012.

A previous report from the Taiwanese rumor mill claimed LG Display and Chungwa Picture Tubes are set to manufacturer the 8.9-inch display of Amazon’s upcoming offering. Both companies currently supply the 7-inch displays for the Kindle Fire, which launched last week. Be sure to check back soon as we will have a few review of the $200 Kindle Fire
