Apple Also Introducing 8GB iPad 2 on March 7?
Apple is set to announce the next-generation iPad on March 7 in San Francisco, but there has been an undercurrent of rumors suggesting the iPad 2 might stick around. Now, the often-unreliable DigiTimes is reporting that Apple will announce an 8GB iPad 2 on March 7 in addition to the iPad 3.
The 8GB iPad will undoubtedly be less expensive than the iPad 3 and the 16GB iPad 2 Wi-Fi, currently the least expensive on the market, which launched at $499. The move makes sense for Apple as it would be in a better position to compete with the $200 Amazon Kindle Fire and other low-cost Android tablets.
The DigiTimes is also reporting that Apple will unveil a 16GB and 32GB iPad 3, but makes no mention of a 64GB unit. Could Apple be ditching its highest capacity tablet?
The Apple iPad 3 is expected to have a higher resolution than the iPad 2, a more powerful processor, and an LTE 4G option. Other rumors suggest it will be buttonless and slightly thicker than the iPad 2.
