Apple CEO Tim Cook Optimistic About Tablets, Unless They Run Android

In a recent interview, Apple CEO Tim Cook shared his thoughts about tablets. He’s quite bullish on them in general, but had some smack talk about Android-based models.

Cook told BusinessWeek, “I have always said that the tablet market was going to surpass the PC market. I was saying that well before it was viewed to be sane to say that. It’s clear that we’re 24 months away from that.”

According to one market-analysis firm, though, this prediction from Apple’s CEO is actually pessimistic — IDC said recently that it expects tablet shipments to surpass total PC shipments (desktop plus laptop) for the first time over the next three months.

Cook vs. Android

But Cook doesn’t think every tablet operating system is pulling its weight.

He told BusinessWeek, “I think if I bought [an Android tablet] and used it, and I thought that was a tablet experience, I’m not sure I would ever buy another tablet. The responsiveness isn’t there. The basic touch is really off. The app experience is a stretched-out smartphone kind of experience. It’s not an optimized experience.
