A beta of iOS 7 was released for the iPhone earlier this month, and this has just been followed by the first version that will run on an iPad.

This gives users of Apple’s tablets a first glimpse of what to expect from this operating system, which is undergoing a significant redesign.

Images coming from this beta show how Johny Ives, Apple’s head of design, has interpreted his new vision for iOS on the iPad. The simpler, flatter look is very much in evidence, as is the new Control Center, which is intended to give quick access to frequently-used tasks.

Apple is expected to keep releasing beta versions through the summer. The full version of iOS 7 isn’t scheduled to be released until this fall, about the same time the iPad 5 is introduced.
