Apple iPad 2 Might Be Phased Out When iPad Mini Introduced

The iPad 2 will soon be discontinued, as Apple makes room in its product line-up for the iPad Mini. That’s the prediction of one industry analyst, anyway.

Apple iPad 2When Apple third-generation tablet was introduced back in the spring, it held onto the iPad 2 as a cheaper alternative. The latest model starts at $500, while the iPad 2 goes for $400.

Rob Cihra with Evercore Partners said in a note to investors that he expects this role to be filled with the iPad Mini, which is likely to be unveiled next week. Earlier unconfirmed reports have indicated that this tablet, which will supposedly have a 7.85-inch display, will start at $250.

The iPad 2 launched in 2011 and has a 10.1-inch touchscreen. The iPad Mini will reportedly have the same screen resolution — 1024 x 768.
