Apple iPad 5 Could Be Smaller, Thinner, and Lighter

Those who are considering a full-size iPad might be interested to hear that an analyst is predicting that the fifth-generation 9.7-inch tablet from Apple will be smaller than its predecessors.

Apple iPad 5Eric Chiou from TrendForce says that the iPad 5 is going to borrow some features from the iPad mini:

“The next generation of iPad will apply the thin GF2 touch module of the same level as iPad mini and use the narrow bezel panel design to solve the issue of larger volume, thickness, and weight.”

Chiou believes that these changes will increase demand for Apple full-size tablet, which is currently being outsold by its smaller sibling 35% to 65%. After the release of the next-generation iPad — which the analysts says is going to happen in the July-Sept. quarter — the ratio will be 50% to 50%.

Overall, Chiou predicts that Apple’s tablet shipments could be as high as 82.1 million units in 2013, a 25% growth. He also says Apple will account for more than half of all the tablets sold worldwide this year.
