Despite earlier rumors that the highly-speculated Apple iPad mini would ship in September, new reports peg this device for a November roll out date, potentially giving the tablet its own release event.
While it has been said that Apple is planning to debut the smaller slate a few weeks after announcing the new iPhone in September, a new source claims the iPad Mini will ship closer to the year’s end, and may even have its own debut event. Though Apple has yet to officially confirm the existence of a sub-8-inch iteration of its ever-popular iPad, rumors of the device have been picking up recently.
According to reports, Apple is also working on smaller versions of the iPad Smart Cover and iPad Smart Case for the iPad mini. While all signs point to ‘true’ on the existence of an iPad mini, the November target date seems a little odd, as Apple typically does not release new hardware during this month.
A New, New iPad?
A smaller iPad isn’t the only Apple Tablet we are likely to see this year, as talks of a fourth-generation full-size iPad have been mentioned as well. Reports claim that the Cupertino-based company plans to release another relatively modest body tweaked version of the tablet, which would basically keep the same shape. Changes are said to include spec-improvements/heat-reducing changes to the hardware inside.
As seen in recent hardware leaks of the iPhone 5, Apple is including a smaller Dock Connector and a rear-side microphone, which could aid in noise cancellation and improve audio quality for video recordings. These could be heading to the company’s tablets as well.
While no date has been mentioned for the release of a fourth-generation iPad, it has been said that Apple could hold a special event to announce the iPad mini, as well as a refresh of the current iPad. Yet, this is very unlikely, as Apple only refreshes its mobile products once a year, and with the new iPad only launching this past March, the company could make some enemies by replacing the latest rendition of the tablet so soon after its launch. Similar rumors went around last year, claiming that Apple was going to update the iPad 2 in late 2011, though that never happened.
So what do you think, have these rumors gone rampant or could Apple really be releasing a smaller slate, as well as a refreshed iPad? Let us know on the TabletPCReview forums.
