Apple is reportedly on course to announce its next tablet by the end of this month, if not quite as soon as we originally thought. The unveil of the iPad Mini is allegedly going to happen in less than two weeks.
A previous rumor indicated that Apple was going to take the wraps off this device on Oct. 17, but that seems unlikely now as the expected invites have not gone out to the press for an event on that day.
Instead, eyes are turning to Oct. 23, as that’s the date AllThingsD is being told by unnamed insiders will be the official reveal for the iPad Mini. If Apple sends out invitations to the press on Oct. 16 for an event to be held a week later, this report will be all but confirmed.
At this point, it’s not known when this 8-inch tablet will reach store shelves. Unconfirmed reports coming out of Asia indicate that Apple made a last-minute design change, delaying the release a bit.
A Preview of the iPad Mini
According to unconfirmed reports that came out over the last few months, Apple’s next tablet will have a smaller screen than its predecessors — 7.85 inches instead of 9.8 inches. It will have a 1024 x 768 display, the same as the first- and second-generation iPads.
Naturally, the iPad Mini will debut running Apple iOS 6, giving it Siri support. It will reportedly have both front and rear-facing cameras and dual stereo speakers.
A price for this tablet is unknown, but it is rumored to cost at least $100 less than the most-recent full-sized Apple iPad. To reduce the cost, a 4G-enabled version allegedly won’t be offered.
