Apple Looking to Up iPad Presence in Verizon Enterprise

Apple recently posted a job listing for a Verizon iPad Systems Engineer, who will be responsible for “developing confidence” in using iPads in the workplace, but more importantly, it reveals the possibility of a more significant relationship between the two companies.

Apple iPadFor consumers, this could mean seeing a 3G or 4G Verizon iPad tablet soon. The current iPad Verizon is selling is Wi-Fi only and, as a connectivity solution, comes bundled with a MiFi 2200 3G router.

While the listing makes no reference to any specific plans for hardware development, it says that the position is intended to help the iPad’s implementation into enterprise accounts, specifically mentioning that knowledge of the tablet’s corporate support—including Exchange syncing and VPN access—is a plus.

Apple has already been making significant progress in its effort to find a home for the iPad in businesses, what with securing a JP Morgan pilot project and with half of the Fortune 100 adopting the iPad. With this move to develop a relationship with Verizon’s business market, it seems that Apple is looking to take that progress one step further.
