Apple Might Turn to Intel to Produce Future iPad, iPhone Processors

Most might be surprised to learn that Apple’s arch-rival Samsung makes all the processors for the iPad and iPhone. But that might change soon.

IntelApple and Intel are in talks that could lead to Intel making the chips for Apple’s smartphones and tablets, according to a report from Reuters.

Apple designs its own processors, but turns to an outside company to produce them. Samsung has this contract now, but these two companies are locked in a long patent-infringement lawsuit, and are battling to see which will be the top smartphone maker.

Intel, on the other hand, has had little luck breaking into the mobile market. And with tablets increasingly cut into sales of laptops and desktops, it has excess production capacity.
