Apple’s iPad mini with Retina Display Can Now Be Pre-ordered

After being unveiled last month, Apple has begun taking orders for the second version of the iPad mini — the first with a high-resolution “Retina” display.

Apple iPad mini 2This doesn’t mean the wait is over for the device, however. Those ordering this model report being informed by Apple that it won’t ship until the last week of this month or in early December.

Although this has never been officially confirmed by Apple, there are reports of difficulties producing the 7.9-inch, 2048 x 1536 displays in sufficient quantities to meet demand.

And there is expected to be plenty of demand for this product — it’s predecessor was the best-selling tablet in the world over the last year. That said, the new model is no longer the only option for those looking for a 7.9-inch, iOS tablet, as Apple has kept the original iPad mini around and is asking $300 for it.

The second-gen model starts at $400, but has the improved screen and a considerably faster processor than the original.
