If CES proved anything this year, it’s that mobile gaming is big business and everyone wants a piece of the pie. One of those prospective new gaming platforms, the Archos GamePad, is set to release next month in the U.S. — it is already on sale in Europe.
The 7-inch Android tablet offers gamepad controls on each side of the device including physical buttons, analog sticks, and a 4-way d-pad. The device runs on Android, which will give it access to all of the games on Google Play along with the additional social features and applications found in other Android tablets.
The Archos GamePad is equipped with a dual-core 1.6GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of storage, while its 7-inch display will offer a 1024 x 600 pixel resolution. Additionally, it houses a built-in microphone and front-facing camera.
Currently, the gaming tablet is on sale in Europe, and is reportedly doing better than initially anticipated. Archos will look to carry that momentum into the U.S. sometime next month, where the gamepad is expected to go on sale for $170.
