ASUS Padfone Possibly Delayed

ASUS PadfoneThe release of the unique tablet/smartphone hybrid from ASUS, the Padfone, could be suffering a delay in certain markets due to a shortage of processors.

The Padfone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, but unfortunately, Qualcomm is currently experiencing shortages of the chip due to high demand.  ASUS Indonesia recently tweeted about the Snapdragon S4 shortages and, roughly translated, the post pointed out that “unfortunately” it’s used in the Padfone.

Tech site The Verge attempted to follow up with ASUS about the tweet to get confirmation of whether or not the Padfone was officially delayed, but the spokesperson who responded simply reiterated that there were shortages of the Snapdragon processors. “I believe [the shortage is] affecting all of Qualcomm’s customers,” said the rep.

Prior to these issues, the Padfone was slated for a release at the end of April in Taiwan, and was rumored to be released in Italy in late May. No word yet on a North American release and whether or not it has been impacted by the chip shortage.
