With CES well on its way, NVIDIA has just announced the pricing for the 7-inch slate ASUS introduced earlier today, marking the tablet with a $249 price tag, putting the device in competition with compact slates like the NOOK Tablet and Kindle Fire.
Known as the ME370T, the tablet was described as being as powerful as the Transformer Prime by NVIDIA’s CEO Jen-Hsun Huang, a tall order for a slate of its size. With similar pricing to Barnes & Noble’s offering, the NVIDIA tablet could pose as a competitor in the 7-inch market. The tablet will ship with the latest version of Android Ice Cream Sandwich and will pack a Tegra 3 processor, making it the first 7-inch device to run on a quad-core chip. With a 1280 x 800 display, the small slate will feature a “great camera” according to Huang, which could prove beneficial when set against the camera-lacking Fire.
While NVIDIA remained coy about availability, the company did mention that Ice Cream Sandwich would be hitting the Transformer Prime today, instead of later this week as expected.
