The Nook is getting an update. The newest firmware version, 1.5, is the largest update yet for the Barnes & Noble Nook eReader. It is set to drop in late November.
According to Barnes & Noble, the update will “dramatically increase Nook 3G and Nook WiFi’s page turn speed,” and also deliver “features and performance enhancements.”
The enhancements will include improved search capabilities, personal eBook library customization, password protection and improved synching with the Nook apps. Devices that support the app include iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, and Android smartphone or PC.
B&N expects to push the update via WiFi in November. Users can also manually download at the Nook website.
Also being upgraded is the “Nook for Android” line of free Nook apps, set for release later this week. Features include “Go To” functionality that takes you to a specific page number, searching within a book, a highlight and note viewer, and updated menus and navigation. This Nook for Android v2.3 will be available at the Nook for Android site.
