After months of speculation, a July 10 release date has been confirmed for the Toshiba Thrive by the electronics retail giant, Best Buy.
Toshiba’s first Android-powered tablet will be available at all Best Buy stores in the United States, as well as online as of Sunday, July 10. Though the store’s website began taking pre-orders in mid-June, customers can expect to receive their tablets between July 10 and July 15. Along with the Thrive, Best Buy’s website offers a selection of accessories for pre-order, including back covers, dust and scratch resistant screen covers and a capacitive touchscreen pen.
While Best Buy is the first store to sell the tablet as of July 10, an Austin, Texas location reportedly displayed a 16GB model on July 5, according to a post on engadget.
Other online outlets such as Amazon and Newegg offer the 8GB, 16GB and 32GB tablets, for $429.99, $479.99 and $579.99 respectively. While Best Buy seems to only stock the 16GB and 32GB devices in-store, they do offer the 8GB version online.
All three models of the tablet feature “Black Tie” colored body design and a 10.1-inch diagonal high-resolution multi-touch 1280 x 800 LED display. Powered by Nvidia’s 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2 chip, the Thrive contains a 2MP front-facing webcam and a 5MP rear-facing camera. Unlike most of its tablet counterparts, the Thrive includes a full size USB 2.0 slot, as well as miniUSB, HDMI and SD card slots. Complete with full Adobe Flash support, Toshiba’s new tablet will also have a replaceable prismatic lithium ion battery.
