With BlackBerry in the process of remaking itself, there have been questions about whether there will be a successor to the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet. A recent interview with CEO Thorsten Heins has a strong clue, and it’s probably not something tablet fans want to hear.
“In five years I don’t think there’ll be a reason to have a tablet anymore. Maybe a big screen in your workspace, but not a tablet as such. Tablets themselves are not a good business model,” is what he told Bloomberg.
In previous interviews, Heins has made it clear that he sees smartphones as the future of mobile computing. He has never flat-out said there won’t be a second-generation tablet from BlackBerry, but all his comments on the subject are pessimistic.
