Retailers discounted the BlackBerry PlayBook to $199 on Black Friday, which TabletPCReview claimed was the deal of the day. Starting today, the PlayBook is going back on sale for a limited-time offer until February 11.
Customers can purchase the 16GB version of the tablet for $199, the 32GB one for $249, and the 64GB version for $299 on the BlackBerry online store. The PlayBook is a 7-inch tablet (1024 x 600 resolution) that sports a 1 GHz dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM. It will receive the upcoming BlackBerry PlayBook 2.0 OS that will launch in mid-February.
The OS update will finally bring an email client to the tablet, a feature missing at its launch in early 2011. The app will support tabbed email browsing and will function as a unified inbox for both work and personal emails, as well as social media content from Facebook and Twitter. A new calendar app will also be included with the update that will allow users to sort appointments by contact, and review contact information culled from social networks and past email messages. Other improvements include embedded charts, wireless printing, and greater IT security control.
If the rumors are true, RIM will be releasing the second version of the PlayBook by the end of 2012 along with its newest BlackBerry 10 devices.
