A recently released update to the BlackBerry Tablet OS for the BlackBerry Playbook will add new multimedia options to the platform and improve attachment support.
Now with BlackBerry Tablet OS version 1.07, users will now be able to access ZIP files that are attached to emails through the Blackberry Bridge application, which links BlackBerry smartphones to the PlayBook. The files themselves will be stored on the SD card inside the smartphone, so when the phone is disconnected from the PlayBook no files remain on the tablet.
In addition, RIM has added support for 15 more languages, in preparation for the PlayBook’s global release later this year. The software update also includes revisions to the pictures application, which will now support portrait orientation, and the video application, which will allow users to pinch-to-zoom on a video while it is playing.
Though the promised native email client and Android application support are still not present on the tablet, the 358MB update should currently be available to download through the Software Updates app on the PlayBook.
