A Sprint Marketing Director revealed, seemingly accidentally, that the mobile giant will carry the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, and that it will be available in Sprint stores very, very soon.
Gerald Evans might have made a bit of a gaff when he posted on his personal WordPress blog that Sprint was picking up the Wi-Fi PlayBook, and announcing a sales date before his company had the opportunity to do so.
The original blog post has been removed, but not before being viewed by several media outlets. Vestiges of the post still remain, as well, with Evans still having a link to the dead page posted on his Twitter with the teaser text: “BLACKBERRY PLAYBOOK WITH WIFI AVAILABLE SUNDAY.”
So that slates Sunday, June 5 as the official launch date of the PlayBook at Sprint. It should be heavily emphasized that this is still the Wi-Fi version of the device, and that there’s still no set release date for the 4G PlayBook (which will also be available from Sprint when it arrives).
The 16 GB Wi-Fi PlayBook from Sprint costs $500, the same going price as other retails for the 16 GB model.
