Boingo Wireless has announced the availability of its Wi-Finder app for the Windows 8 and RT operating systems, an edition outfitted with customizable in-app driving directions, plus integration with Bing Maps’ immersive mapping experience.
Also offered for iOS, Android, Mac, and older versions of Windows, Wi-Finder is aimed at letting users quickly connect to any of over 600,000 Boingo wireless hotspots around the world.
The app notifies users when they are near a Boingo hotspot. Boingo subscribers can also enable an auto-login option to automatically access the internet when in range of a hotspot.
Redesigned to work with the Windows 8 Modern (Metro) user interface, the new edition works on ARM-based Windows RT tablets in addition to PCs and Windows 8 Intel-based tablets, said Imani Greene, a Boingo spokesperson. “The app runs with all of the same functionality across both Windows 8 and RT,” she told TabletPCReview.
Through Bing Maps’ immerse mapping experience, Windows 8 and RT users can view the hotspots in a choice of standard or aerial view.
